The Dornoch Firth Group was established in 2007 to serve the community of East Sutherland. We are an independent charity that runs lots of community groups and activities. We became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in August 2011.
We run lots of groups and projects, please browse the pages of this website to find out more about what you can get involved in. Do get in touch if you have any ideas or would like to volunteer with us!
Our aims are:
To advance citizenship and community development by identifying, creating and developing links to enable the young people and adults of this area to become integrated members of their communities through a programme which provides positive messages of respect, the development of life skills and the enhancement of individual self-esteem in a safe environment
To assist those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage, through developing strategies to respond to their needs, using local resources and the whole community in its widest context.
We are delighted to announce that we have been successful in gaining funding for the next 3 years for health and wellbeing projects! Huge thanks to NHS Highland. This grant will enable us to continue and expand our range of services within our local community.
For the past 5 years we have been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. We have also received core funding from the Robertson Trust, The People's Health Trust, the Community Self-Management Development Fund, The Corra Foundation, The Raddery Trust, Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Dornoch Academy, St Finnbarrs, Treecraft and some very kind local people.
A huge thank you to everybody who has supported us.
The Dornoch Firth Group is a small charity with 4 part-time staff. Charles Minall (Outreach Worker), Jen Smith (Assistant Outreach Worker), Gill Robertson (Food Hut Development Worker) and a local ceramicist who will run our Potting Shed ceramics classes.
As well as this core staff team, we have a wonderful volunteer Board and lots of amazing volunteers who allow us to provide such an array of community activities.
Without them, this would not be possible - thank you all!
